Pulls and washer

The cabinet pulls were put on today. The plumber was here, and the faucet and disposal are hooked up, and the dishwasher is put in place. Dean finished the railing on the top part of the deck- here our are neighborhood deer checking out his work.

Countertops!

They're here! The countertops were installed today, and they are perfect. This granite is called "Empress Green." Depending on the lighting they are dark green, or grey, or blue-ish. They put the island in place so we now have the final layout. Everything looks great. Dean also worked on the deck railing today, and made a lot of headway.

white cabinetry

They finished painting the cabinetry on Friday. It looks beautiful. Our porch is nearing completion as well. This should be our last major week having folks working on the house- the countertops come in tomorrow, then the final electrical and plumbing, and Dean has a few projects to finish up.

More Painting

They finished painting the outside of the house on Saturday, and began painting the kitchen cabinets yesterday. Our garage is now a paint station for the doors and drawers. Upstairs is off limits again as they spray the rest of the cabinetry. This should continue through Friday. Dean has been putting in molding and base boards, and it is looking really nice.

No more pink house!

They started painting our house today, and I'm pleased to announce it is no longer pink! I am having a hard time finding a before picture, so this one will have to do. Now the house is brown ("mocha"), with white trim. Still underway, but considerably better already.

Beautiful Floors!

The floors are almost completely installed. They are pre-finished Brazilian Cherry, and look beautiful. New gutters also went up yesterday. The outside of the house is masked for painting tomorrow, and Richard is painting the window molding and baseboards in the garage. Dean's finished up most of the outside of the house work.

Green

Richard spent another weekend painting, this time making the front room green. Todd helped him today, and even Owen pitched in for a while. It looks beautiful. More cabinetry and our sink showed up late last week.

Get ready for a big week- floors go in over the next 3 days, the outside of the house is painted starting on Tuesday, and the cabinetry is finished this week.

Cabinets

The cabinets have arrived and been put in place over the past couple of days. They are just as drawn, and beautiful. We are very happy with the layout. The island, corner cabinets, side hutch are all in. Dean finished the siding and demo'ed the remainder of the fireplace brick, and is getting ready to lay down the floor next week. You can see the boxes of our hardwood floor next to the fireplace, getting acclimated.

Wood floors

We investigated several types of flooring, wanting to be sure we made the minimal environmental impact with our remodel. We decided on plywood floors, all from reclaimed wood. They were put in today. We'll have a muralist coming to paint them- scenes from Oregon and family portraits and some meaningful phrases will all be illustrated on our floors, then finished with a durable glaze, made from soybeans.

Yellow

Richard spent all weekend painting. We are now ready for the cabinetry. The hallways, dining room and kitchen are all yellow on the walls and white on the ceiling. This week's task: paint the rest prior to the floors going in next week. Richard used 3.5 cans of yellow (I bought the 4th today) and 2.5 cans of ceiling paint.

Painting and siding

Dean and Buddy finished the siding on the new addition this week. Richard has spent the last couple evenings painting. He has gone through 3.5 gallons of primer, and is on his first gallon of ceiling paint (should be empty before the end of the night). However, I bought 4 more gallons of primer today, so we are steady with 16 gallons of paint to go. The poor guy can't get ahead.

Texture and trim

It's September! One month and 3 days until the finish date!
Richard spend the 3 day weekend "laboring"- he painted the primer on all the trim areas and doors. Today they added the texture to the dry wall. It's smelly, but will hopefully dry soon so that Richard can begin the task of painting. The kitchen and dining area needs to be painted prior to next week when the cabinetry comes in. We learned at the paint store today that all the textured areas (everything) needs to be primed before painting. So we have a big task at hand. And by "we" I mean Richard, since apparently fetuses and paint don't mix. We have a bunch of gallons of paint in our garage ready to go:
1 gallon of green for Owen's room (opened and mostly done)
1 gallon of satin white trim pain for Owen's room (opened and mostly done)
2 gallons of semi-gloss white trim paint
2 gallons of good (trim) primer
4 gallons of wall/ceiling primer
3 gallons of ceiling paint
2 gallons of green for the front room
3 gallons of yellow for the kitchen dining room.
Also prepped in the garage are our light fixtures and ceiling fan that arrived last week. Our outdoor light fixtures and pulls are ready to go, sitting downstairs. We picked out slate tiles for the fireplace, and new house numbers for outside. I believe the shopping part of this adventure is winding down (once I figure out window treatments).
