Drywall

Drywall went in today. There was a small delay in the delivery, but it's here and up. They will be taping and finishing it this week. It looks great. Dean put on the decking this week. Richard, Todd and my dad spent all day Saturday sanding the trim, getting ready for priming and painting.

This Old House

It is feeling a bit like one of those episodes of "This Old House," where all the insides of the house are exposed, and you wonder why the owners didn't just move. But we are still enjoying the process, and so far no surprises.

Richard finished painting Owen's room this weekend. Owen is happy with the results. The ceiling will be finished next week, and then we'll have to touch up the walls. Dean did some excellent demo work on the ugly rocks surrounding our fireplace. We'll be tiling the cinder block, and getting a gas insert. Right now, Richard and I are signed up for that, since we tiled our floors in San Diego. I do remember saying that I'd never tile anything ever again, but I'm sure I wasn't serious. Dean also pulled out most of the flooring. The insulation guys came through yesterday, and tomorrow is drywall.

Electric Paint

I haven't posted anything this past week because while there has been a lot of progress, there hasn't been much to show pictures of. The electricians came through at the beginning of the week and we are now wired up. Recessed lighting is in place, switches and outlets are ready to go. Dean made more progress on the deck and the new half wall for the stairwell railing. We passed all the necessary inspections to date. We signed off on our cabinetry specs and picked out paint colors for inside and outside. Owen and I put a little paint on the wall in the living room to see if we like it (he did the low parts). Richard's started painting Owen's room- a "greenish glow, just like Uranus," by request. Next week, insulation.

plumbing, HVAC, electrical

Plumbers and HVAC came through last week. Today began the electrical work. Meanwhile, Dean and Buddy demo'd the remainder of the soffets and the framing left between the new addition. They removed the stair banister (our house keeps getting less and less baby-proof), and made headway on the new porch.

Breakthrough!

It's been a big 3 days. On Monday, the ceiling guys came and removed all the popcorn ceiling from upstairs, including the bedrooms. They also removed the flooring in the old kitchen/dining room areas. This took until this morning, and they plastic'ed off the entire upstairs. We've been living downstairs since Saturday, and enjoying all the amenities of our "little kitchen." The gentle cycle gets the dishes pretty clean, but we have to watch out for the stemware in the dryer.

Monday the roofers came and roofed the addition. Dean spent the beginning of the week digging more holes for the new deck and putting in the footings. Today he demo'd the old deck and put the hole in between the house and the addition. Yippee!
